Margaret Maria's creativity knows no bounds. Seamlessly drifting between genres and going where her spirit takes her, you will find a variety of music - some expected and some unexpected. Venturing into her creativity is a shapeshifting activity in itself. Opening up to her sonic world and exploring all its dimensions is the fascination.
Initially a cellist with a traditional classical performance past, she has broken out of every mould to create something unique and always from the heart. As a graduate of the Curtis institute of Music and a professional cellist with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and the National Arts Centre Orchestra, she soaked up the music of the past to enable her to create music of the future.
Her latest collab with Indigenous singer and drummer Janet McCue with Mark Kelso on the Conundrum, is set to perform their first show, 'Sisters of the Split Sky'. With three performances scheduled: Toronto on April 1, Curve Lake First Nation's Whetung Gallery on April 21 and Peterborough Market Hall on May 21.
MURDNUNOC is also Margaret Maria's new passion project and Band, with virtuoso drummer Mark Kelso on the Conundrum (yes, its an actual canoe drum created by artist David Hynes!), with Tréson's unique vocals, Neil 'Nemo' Morris on bass, Indigenous singer and drummer Janet McCue, and David Jackson on Keys and Vocals. She is currently creating an album and a full length show is in the works (with a symphony show following shortly). With Lighting and Art Design by the incredible Joel Richardson and Live Audio Engineering by the superb Jeffrey Holdip. Stay tuned for some wild and incredible new music coming from this new ensemble.
Margaret Maria is also working on her Love Lesson series (which can be heard on her YouTube Channel and on her SoundCloud) and completing her Rock Opera 'The Lady Of the Moon' with her co-writer in Argentina, Julian Garcia-Reig. She is also co-creating new Rage Angel Tracks with her co-writer, Craig McConnell, and teaching up a storm in Ottawa and with OrKidstra and Sistema Toronto!! In addition, her composition, creativity and improv retreat 'Seeds of Creativity' course at BIIMA in Italy, is being planned again for July 2026. And her incredible partnership with Metipso Portal Sound Labs, where Maria is co-creating cinematic tracks with musicians in Kenya, with the first music produced features the Masai tribe's stunning chanting.
Travelling back and forth between Ottawa (where she teaches and works with the OrKidstra kids) and Toronto (where she teaches with Sistema Toronto, creates, dreams and has her recording studio), meeting new friends along the way, constantly on the look out for making musical connections, and with her now full time new Pomsky puppy 'Gus' making her hustle even more!!
